2021 Virgo Astrology:

23 August – 22 September

In to Shape

You’ll be ready to whip yourself into shape as the year starts, thanks to energetic Mars in your 6th house of health and fitness. Mars in Aquarius is notoriously unconventional, so it’s perfectly natural for you to consider less mainstream forms of exercise. Tai Chi, Yoga, and Pilates are all great ways to get in shape without having to invest a lot of money. The more adventurous among you might consider belly dancing… male or female, there is something incredibly freeing about swinging your hips with abandon! The New Moon in Capricorn on January 11th connects with powerful Pluto, communicative Mercury, and affectionate Venus in your 5th house of pleasure and creativity, inspiring you to live the most joyful life possible. Of course, with unpredictable Uranus activating your 8th house of sex, death, and taxes, you may be frequently reminded of the price one must pay for living out loud and fearlessly. Avoid buying things on credit and taking out loans if you can. Have fun, but don’t go beyond what is healthy and sensible!

Public’s Darling

You are the public’s darling for the first half of the year as jolly Jupiter moves through lively Gemini and your 10th house of career and reputation. The Virgin is often multifaceted and can keep two careers going at once, one that represents your practical side and the other that fulfills your creative drive. The month of May should be especially eventful and fortunate… many of you could be offered a promotion or dream job as The Powers That Be smile upon you. Expansive Jupiter activates your 11th house of friends and associates after June 26th, giving you an opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with old ones. Friends are like family to most Virgins, and many times your friends are who you consider your true clan. Jupiter will work with Saturn for the rest of the year to help you establish stronger bonds and greater cooperation among your friends, siblings, and neighbors. This is a year that you can make your collective dreams come true.

Words Carry Weight

Saturn moving through Scorpio and your 3rd house of communication and community suggests that your words carry a good deal of weight these days. You may have heavy responsibilities related to your neighbors, school, and siblings, making this very busy time for many of you. In fact, it may seem like you never have enough time to get everything done… you may have to practice saying ‘no’ more often. Saturn is known as the Task Master for good reason, so don’t be surprised if you have several obstacles to overcome during this period. Your ability to travel may be hampered, possibly due to difficulty finding reliable and affordable transportation. Some of you may end up working through email and other forms of electronic communication, which solves one problem but can create another as there is always the risk of being misunderstood when the conversation isn’t face to face. There will be several transits that will trigger Saturn’s influence in your 3rd house this year, including a Mercury Retrograde and a few lunations. These are the times to be on the lookout for any miss communications, mechanical breakdowns, accidents, and arguments that could impact you. Go in with your eyes wide open!

Relationships: the Journey to the Heart

There’s no place like home as the year gets off to a cozy start with Venus in Sagittarius and your 4th house of home and family. This is a great time to stay home and snuggle! The Goddess of Love moves into your 5th house of romance and creativity on January 9th and meets up with Pluto, Lord of Beginnings and Endings, on January 17th. This is a time of transformation for you, especially related to how you experience joy. A lover may come into your life who changes the way you see the world… one thing is for sure, after this transit you will definitely have a different perspective on life. If there are children in your life, this may also be a time of transformation for them, and you will need to be strong and patient in your support. Venus moves into humanitarian Aquarius and your 6th house of health and duty on February 2nd, making your relationships with coworkers much sweeter. However, as Venus squares Saturn around February 11th, you may find yourself overbooked with obligations and activities, leading to frustration and discord. This is one of those times that you simply must say ‘no’ to helping out others, especially those who seem to always expect you to save the day.

Venus swims into Pisces and your 7th house of marriage and partnerships on February 26th, joining forces with mystical Neptune. Your relationships may take on a more spiritual tone now, making your love life more ideal than it has ever been before. However, when Venus and Neptune combine, many of us put on rose-colored glasses and confuse reality with fantasy much more easily. The key here is honest and open communication. Make sure your expectations of each other aren’t unrealistic as you work towards a more perfect union. Passion will heat up nicely when Venus enters creative Aries and 8th house of sex, death, and taxes on March 22nd. With revolutionary Uranus in your 8th house for several years to come, many of you are ready to let go of hang-ups and insecurities that have kept you from experiencing the fullness of your sexuality! With a loving partner, intimacy can take you to new heights of ecstasy this month. Of course, controlling Pluto continues to demand that you keep up proper appearances, challenging you to find a healthy balance between expressing yourself authentically and doing what is expected and required.

On April 15th, Venus moves into sensual Taurus and your 9th house of travel and adventure, bringing beautiful strangers into your life. This is a good time to break out of your usual routine and try new things. Of course, many of you have a hard time parting ways with the familiar, and you like things ‘just so’ most of the time. Don’t let that stand in the way of broadening your horizons. Once Venus moves into Gemini and your 10th house of career and public standing on May 9th, you’ll be focused on your relationships with those in authority. This could be the luckiest month of the year for you, as jolly Jupiter blends with lovely Venus to bring you a wave of good fortune, especially related to your job and how others see you. A raise or promotion is not out of the question. You’ll be ready to celebrate after June 3rd, when Venus moves into Cancer and your 11th house of friends and associates. In fact, your friends are about to become much more significant in your life as expansive Jupiter prepares to spend the next year or so creating beneficent and bountiful connections for you. However, be ready to slow down by June 27th, when Venus moves into Leo and your 12th house of solitude. Traditionally, this is a time of secret affairs and clandestine activity, but in modern times it often signifies working behind the scenes in a charitable way. You will find that helping others less fortunate than you are is very rewarding, and you may prefer serving on the soup line to dancing all night long now.

After July 22nd, Venus enters Virgo and your 1st house of personality and appearance, giving you an undeniably attractive glow. People will gravitate naturally towards you and tend to agree with whatever you suggest, so take this opportunity to ask for what you want! When meeting new people, you can make a great first impression. By August 16th, Venus enters attractive Libra and your 2nd house of personal finances, which should help you close any sales or deals you are involved in. Next, Venus enters penetrating Scorpio and your 3rd house of communication on September 11th, making your words flow pleasantly and easily. Spending time with neighbors and siblings is favored, giving you a chance to make peace where needed. Affectionate Venus slips into Sagittarius and your 4th house of home and family on October 7th, bringing cheer and good will into your home. Sagittarius is a nature loving sign, and many of you will enjoy creating a space outdoors where you can relax and entertain.

After November 5th, Venus returns to practical Capricorn and your 5th house of children and creativity, bringing to mind events that occurred back in January. Because Pluto is involved, everything regarding this house will be experienced more intensely as you go through personal transformation. How you experience joy is likely to change over the next several years, and you may be reminded that as Kahlil Gibran once wrote, “the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears”. It’s impossible to know joy without having experienced sorrow, as they are opposite sides of the same coin. Venus turns retrograde on December 21st, which means she will remain in your 5th house until March 2021, giving you months to consider your relationships to what you create and what brings you pleasure.

Home and Family

Aside from a lunar eclipse that might shake things up in May, your home life should be fairly peaceful for most of the year. Jupiter opposite your 4th house of home and family during the first half of the year may indicate that you are often too busy to slow down and enjoy being at home, in which case try to be more present when you are with your loved ones. Yes, that means put down your smartphone and stop checking your email at dinnertime! Slow moving Saturn may bring some challenges to the lives of your siblings or even strain your relationships with them, making it important for you to relate to them with the most honesty and kindness possible. At the same time, regenerative Pluto transforms your relationships with your children, or perhaps your children will transform you as you move through the year. One thing you can count on is that things are changing, slowly but surely. Will you be the rock others count on, or will you crumble?

Work and Health

This may finally be the year you don’t have to worry too much about your health, as your efforts to live a wholesome lifestyle have paid off well. As a Virgo, health or the lack of it is often been on your mind, so it’s great to finally feel like you have a good handle on what does and does not work for you. The beginning of the year gives you a chance to get into a regular rhythm of exercise that is just right for you, and as long as you continue to keep a sensible balance between healthy eating and regular, stress relieving activity, you can enjoy relatively strong vigor and vitality. One caveat: Once Jupiter enters company loving Cancer and your 11th house of friends and associates on June 26th, it will be very tempting to overindulge in food and drink with your friends more often! Keep your impromptu gatherings and celebrations to no more than a couple of times a month, or else make sure your glass just has water and lemon in it.

Career and Finances

Generous Jupiter continues through your 10th house of career and public standing for the first half of the year, helping you to be successful in the public eye. This should translate to improved finances for most of you, or at least result in opportunities for promotions and raises. Of course, with unpredictable Uranus in your 8th house of other people’s resources for several years to come, you won’t be able to rely on anyone to consistently support you financially. If you are working as an independent contractor, you will find that your cash flow is choppy, so make sure you budget wisely and plan for slow times. On the positive side, Uranus in the 8th house also means you could have an unexpected windfall of some sort! One thing is for sure; money will come and go for you this year, so save and spend with lean times in mind.

Mercury the Messenger

What does Mercury Retrograde hold for you this year? Your life ruler to goes retrograde three times a year for about three weeks each time. During retrogrades, you can expect miss communication, delays in travel, and breakdowns in machinery and appliances. Usually these breakdowns are due to neglect or lack of attention to detail and the retrograde period simply brings this to the surface. It’s often a good idea to hold off on making any important decisions, purchases, or signing contracts when Mercury is retrograde. Brides planning weddings should certainly consult an astrologer to avoid scheduling the Big Day during a retrograde! On the positive side, Mercury retrograde is excellent for research and investigation. It is a time to go over everything carefully, looking for loopholes, mistakes, and weaknesses. Here are this year’s Mercury retrogrades and how they are likely to impact you:

February 23rd-March 17th, Mercury Retrograde in Pisces, 7th House

This Retrograde may feel like a repeat of last year as Mercury went retrograde in your 7th house about 12 months ago! This time around, you’ll be more likely to appreciate the opportunity it gives you to think about how you communicate with your most significant other. Some of you may have telepathic experiences with your spouse, best friend, or partner as Mercury turns thoughts inward. If you were planning on signing any joint contracts, you might want to wait until after this retrograde is over. The good news is this is a time for research and reflection before taking action, and once Mercury turns direct you can make some solid decisions.

June 26th-July 20th, Mercury Retrograde in Cancer, 11th House

When Mercury turns retrograde in your 11th house of friends and associates, you’ll need to carefully consider the way you communicate with your peers. Like the earlier Mercury Retrograde in Pisces, you may find a telepathic connection exists between yourself and certain pals. However, don’t expect anyone to read your mind and make sure you not only listen intently to others, but that you also observe their body language carefully. Much of what is meant is not always said, just as much of what is said is not always meant! By the time Mercury turns direct on July 20th, you will have a much clearer picture of how your friends really think and feel.

October 21st-November 10th, Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio, 3rd House

Again, here is another retrograde that seems strangely familiar as Mercury revisits your 3rd house of communication. This time around Saturn is involved, adding a note of greater urgency. You will need to take notes and double check everything, as misunderstandings could have serious consequences. Transportation difficulties, including mechanical problems and accidents are more likely during this time frame. Take care not to drive or operate machinery when you are upset or tired. By the time Mercury turns direct on November 10th, you should be back on the road again with no problems.

Lunar Life with Lady Moon

Your personal New Moon occurs on September 5th, giving you a fresh start as you celebrate your own Personal New Year. The closer the New Moon is to your actual birthday, the more impact it will have, so make a wish for all you desire in the coming year! Like anyone else, you face many challenges, but this is your chance to set your intentions and goals for the coming days. Celebrate simply being yourself and every new opportunity you are given.

Your Full Moon happens on February 25th and represents the culmination of what began back in September2020. This is often an emotional time, as the Moon represents our responses. Events that occurred and decisions you made around your last birthday are now beginning to bear fruit, for better or for worse. Your closest relationships have an important role to play in everything that happens now, and you will need your mate, best friend, or partner to be supportive and understanding. Express yourself openly and honestly, and celebrate your successes while planning for what still lies ahead.

Eclipses

Eclipses indicate change in the area of life they impact, and are often felt for much longer than regular lunations. In cases where the eclipse makes a close aspect to planets or angles in your chart, they can be felt for up to a year. Here is what to look for during the eclipse cycle of 2021:

A Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio on April 25th may bring to light an issue related to your neighbors or siblings that has been developing for some time. Chances are good you have been expecting this and won’t be taken by surprise, but that doesn’t make it any easier. With somber Saturn involved, you may be dealing with an ending, such as a good neighbor moving or even passing away. It could also be that someone close to you is facing challenges that you are unable to help much with. Focus on the positive and what you are able to do rather than lament what you have no control over.

A New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Taurus on May 10th may signal the beginning of a new perspective for you and those you associate with. The 9th house signifies what you believe in and your culture, but it also rules the growth we experience when we step beyond our origins. This is a wonderful time to sign up for continued education or read about subjects you have always been interested in. We stagnate when we stubbornly stick to what we’ve always known, and now is your chance to break out of any ruts you’ve been in. Here’s to new horizons!

A Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on May 25th activates your 4th house of clan and dwelling, bringing to fruition all that you have worked for over the past few months. We get up each day and work long hours, usually for the sweet sanctuary of an hour or two at home each evening with our loved ones. This is a time to celebrate and savor what you’ve built as your foundation, and if there is any trouble in paradise, you should be able to quickly figure out what you need to do to get right back on track. It may be as simple as just spending more time at home with your family.

A Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Aries on October 18th may be the most unpredictable of the year, as it combines with erratic Uranus in your 8th house of sex, death, and taxes. Your finances may be wildly fluctuating positively or negatively at this time, mostly due to factors beyond your control. Because this is a Full Moon, it represents a culmination of what has gone before, so you should have some idea of what to expect as the Moon waxes full. If you have planned sensibly, you should be able to withstand any bumps in the road this eclipse might bring.

A New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Scorpio on November 3rd activates your 3rd house of communication and is a preview to events that could occur during the Full Moon in Taurus on November 17th. Because Mercury is also retrograde at this time, you could be dealing with mechanical breakdowns as well as the emotional stress that accompanies them. By now you have probably become accustomed to the obligations that Saturn will bring your way during this long transit, and hopefully at this point you have everything well in hand. Right now, your main job is to remain strong and steady for those around you, and to not give up in the face of your own challenges.

Virgo the Virgin – Description and Personality

Virgo the Virgin, an earth sign, is the sixth sign of the tropical zodiac. The Sun on his
annual journey shines in Virgo between Aug 22 and Sep 21, though it can vary depending on
the year. The Sun in astrology stands for our inner nature, the stamp of our true
character.

A mutable (fluid and changeable) sign, Virgo governs critical analysis, intellectual
subtlety and service. Virgo people are inclined to be practical and industrious, yet
adaptable, with a remarkable eye for detail. Virgo is an intellectual and discriminating
feminine sign ruled by the magical trickster Mercury, the messenger of the gods.

The emblem of Virgo, a virgin holding sheaves of wheat in her hands, symbolises wisdom,
garnered in the fields of experience. Like the true virgin, most Virgos are shy and, like
a virgin waiting to give herself to the perfect lover, Virgo is also idealistic.

Disappointment, however, can harden you into a cynic and a skeptic. Virgo consequently
becomes quite critical with self as well as circumstances, due to the effect of such
disappointments on a sensitive and discriminating nature. This no doubt would be the case
when you pick your bingo sites…!

The planet Mercury, governing our intellect and communicative faculties, rules Virgo,
where tradition also places the house of its exaltation, so Virgins have a truly
intellectual, critical and analytical approach to life. Communication is important and you
love books, magazines, and writing.

A Critical Eye

A critical eye for detail, combined with your ceaseless pursuit of perfection, endows you
with an irresistible urge to improve everything and everyone (whether they need it or
not!). Service-oriented Virgo seeks to improve the environment, by pursuing careers in
health-related fields, or in other structured areas such as teaching, labour relations, or
counselling. Intensely personal situations can be somewhat inhibiting, but other
circumstances can produce a very dynamic Virgo indeed. Hmmm.

Although you often have altruistic motives in helping others, you do have a teensy
tendency to act the martyr when your offerings are ignored. It is not unheard of for you
to use guilt as a weapon. Helping others to improve is one thing, my dears, but pushing
them toward goals of perfection they cannot hope to accomplish is quite destructive, as
well as impossible.

Health Conscious

Health-conscious Virgo makes an effort to stay physically fit and you don’t mind
repetitive exercise routines, if you can see achievable outcomes. You enjoy tennis,
racquetball, swimming, sailing, fishing, and biking, even though athletically you are not
overly competitive. It’s just that you always seek to perfect whatever skills you may
have, primarily for the sake of doing a thing well. Talented in various crafts,
dressmaking and designing, you may also take a particular interest in such things as
cartography, travel, and philately.

Virgo rules the the sinuses, respiratory system, and bowels. Colds, flu, allergies,
problems with intestines and constipation are common Virgo complaints. You are also
subject to black moods and despondency from time to time, which can adversely affect
others in your vicinity.

Your colours are blue, yellow, grey, tan, navy, and lilac and your birthstone is the sapphire, a variety of corundum. This gem was considered by ancient societies to be a love charm. Though they come in a variety of colours and can even be transparent, the most valuable sapphires are blue. Blue is also the principal colour associated with Virgo. Flowers and plants for Virgo include the aster, chrysanthemum, ivy, and fern.
